A dividend yield is a ratio of the dividend a company pays to shareholders divided by the stock price of the company. It is the annual yield you will receive in dividend payments on your investment if you buy the stock at the current price.
To calculate the dividend yield divide the total annual dividends by the current share price. For example, a stock with a quarterly dividend of $0.50 and a stock price of $50 would have a dividend yield of 4%.
